Ingrid Cryns, Founder

Principal of soma earth , Ingrid Cryns, BES, B Arch, OAA, CBT,  is also the Founding Director of soma earth (2000).  soma earth is a holistic company which includes a broad scope of services and products that supports the building of relationships between body, mind, soul and the built environment.  soma earth also works collaboratively with a number of non-profit and social enterprises.

Ingrid has a great passion to create work that is in alignment for what is best for the Earth, as well as for several generations of human beings on the Earth.  She is deeply committed to teaching others what are the better sustainable and healthy choices.

Ingrid  brings versatility and a wide range of experience to her work as an Architect.  Graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and in 1984 with an Honours Bachelor of Architecture, Ingrid also has trained in Straw Clay, Earth Plaster and Timber Framing with Paula Baker Laporte & Robert Laporte of Econesthomes.com .

Ingrid has over 20 years of experience running and managing a variety of complex projects from small houses, renovations, additions and multi-residential housing to large (up to $12ML) community centres, museums, performing arts centres and commercial projects.  Her work as an Architect and designer has been published in various magazines in Canada and the USA.  Ingrid has been a guest critic in the OCAD (Ontario College of Art & Design, Toronto) Design Studio, guest lecturer at the Sheridan College Interior Design Program (Oakville) and the Fleming College Sustainable Design Program (Haliburton). Ingrid has a unique specialty in straw bale and straw clay, natural building systems. She is the Vice President of the Ontario Straw Bale Building Coalition (since 2009).

A Certified Bioenergetic Therapist (CBT) and highly sensitive, intuitive empath, Ingrid can also read and sense body, building & earth energies.  Ingrid had a private clinical practice from 1995 – 2000 for several years as a life coach, body-oriented psychotherapist and energy worker.  She has a great skill working with group dynamics as well as a highly developed understanding of the body/mind/spirit connection.  She currently lives in Udora, Ontario, north east of the Greater Toronto Area.  She has two daughters in their 20’s and lives with her sustainable partner, Brad Ruelens, a cat and 3 chickens!  They are currently learning how to homestead self-sufficiently surrounded by loving trees, meadows and rivers.
